Our Story

Growing up, I would watch my mom get ready for an event or a dinner party. I would watch her get dressed, put on her make up, do her hair , wear her perfume and as she walked out the door she would turn to my father with a handful of jewels and have him fasten each piece on her. As I got older I would go through her jewelry, try them on and ask her about them. Each piece of jewelry had a story, an occasion it was purchased for, a memory it brought to life, both good and bad. Nonetheless, there was importance in each piece. At the very end of my treasure hunt, my final question was always "can I have it when I grow up" to which the answer was always, "yes."

“Why pass an heirloom on to a child when they are older when you can teach your kids to respect and cherish a piece of jewelry they can grow into.”

 - HELEN ASHIKIAN

Decades passed since then. I married my husband and ventured into a world of jewelry production and manufacturing with him. Needless to say, my stars aligned and led me to a career in jewelry production, an honest loving marriage and a home filled with 2 gorgeous daughters, Olivia Eva & Sienna Marie.

Olivia was about 2 years old when she understood what I did for a living. All my clients had coined her with the nickname, Baby Gold, because she was so intrigued with all the jewelry. I came home after work one day and as I was taking o my jewelry, Olivia jumped up at me and asked if she could wear my necklace.

Without thinking I replied, "when you get older you can, its too long for you now." Then it dawned on me, why shouldn't she be able to share my jewelry, why shouldn't she learn the value of something with so much meaning and significance? That moment I knew it was time, and so Baby Gold was born.

No other object tells a story like a piece of jewelry. Just as we furnish our home with paintings and objects that tell a story about who we are or where we have been. Jewelry not only has an inherent value in the material itself but has a meaning that takes us to a place of significance. Why pass an heirloom on to a child when they are older when you can teach your kids to respect and cherish a piece of jewelry they can grow into –– and thus, Baby Gold was born.
